Acupuncture is the insertion of a very fine needle into specific points on the body along energy pathways called meridians. Acupuncture has been used for centuries to control pain and promote tissue healing. At Radiant we use Anatomical acupuncture. The needles are sterile and disposed of after single use.
Dry needling is proven to be effective in treating Chronic pain. Treatment is done by inserting an acupuncture needle into the tight or shortened muscle. That will then cause the muscle to twitch resulting in relaxation or lengthening of the tight muscle. If this procedure is done on a healthy muscle the patient may not feel any discomfort but because it is done on a chronically shortened muscle the patient may feel a cramp like sensation. It is a distinctive type of pain which the patient learns to welcome it as it is accompanied by relief. Patients refer to it as good pain
Pelvic floor dysfunction refers to a wide range of problems when pelvic floor muscles are weak or tight. Some conditions we treat are incontinence (stress, urge or mixed), pelvic pain and prolapse. Treatment is done one on one in a private sound-proof room (usually 1 hr appointments) with a highly specialized trained female physiotherapist. Treatment includes external and internal manual therapy. Also electrical stimulation or biofeedback may be used.
TMJ dysfunction is a disorder of the Jaw due to malfunction of the joint or muscles. This may cause misalignment in the jaw or abnormal bite. Patient may also suffer from headaches, facial pain, jaw pain and/or clicking, ear or neck pain or difficulty chewing. Treatment can include manual therapy, acupuncture and/or dry needling. Also a screening of the cervical spine (neck) is done as it may contribute to TMJ dysfunction. If needed a referral to a dentist can be made.

At Radiant we take pride in owning up to date equipment such as TENS, Muscle Stimulation (NMES), IFC and ultrasound machines
Another type of modality is the traction machine or decompression therapy. Its the use of a machine to help stretch the spine (neck or back) which causes increased in the intervertebral space (where the disc is located) and as a result helps reduce compression on the nerves due to disc bulge or herniation.
