Frequently Asked Questions

Is physiotherapy painful?

Physiotherapy sessions are not painful. The area that needs to be treated is usually already painful, so it may feel tender to work on, but this is perfectly normal as it is the injured area. Also, since your physiotherapist addresses the tight muscles and stiff joints, it’s normal that you may feel mild discomfort or soreness in the area. Nonetheless, it will feel much better with an increased range of motion and flexibility as those tight structures loosen up. Our physiotherapists will always make sure you are comfortable during the treatments.

What techniques are used in physiotherapy?

The following techniques are used in physiotherapy:

  • Massage
  • Movement and Exercise
  • Taping
  • Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS)
  • Ultrasound
  • Acupuncture and Dry Needling
  • Hydrotherapy
  • Workplace Physiotherapy
  • Icing

What is the duration of each session?

Typically, the session lasts 30-45 minutes, however, it can be extended to 1 hour or 90 minutes if the therapy is required for a longer period. In rare circumstances, if a patient has severe/multiple concerns, the session time is often increased.

How many sessions & at what frequency is needed?

There is no set number of sessions for a certain ailment because it depends entirely on the patient's condition. If the problem is minor, our expert may recommend a few sessions, however in more serious instances (neuro-related, post-surgery, elderly care, etc.), the sessions are normally for a longer length of time, and our physiotherapist will discuss the treatment plan with you.

Can I have PT/RMT when pregnant?

Yes, it is safe to have physiotherapy while being pregnant. Some modalities used will be restricted depending on which trimester you are in, like needling and no TENS on the back, but in general, it is safe to do other modalities and manual therapy during pregnancy. However, you will need to speak with your physiotherapist to discuss your goals and outcome and prepare an individualized plan of care that suits your needs and condition.

How long after surgery should I start physio?

We recommend beginning physiotherapy as soon as possible following surgery to facilitate a quick recovery and to avoid any mistakes or bad movement patterns that may emerge. Treatment may involve education, range of motion exercises, pain management measures, and gait training in the early stages. It may, however, be contingent on your surgeon's advice and approval.

Can’t I do the exercises on my own?

Yes, you can; however, that remark comes with a condition. If you intend to seek several exercises online and attempt them whenever you have time, your at-home physical therapy program is unlikely to be effective. Doing exercises on your own without the guidance of a competent therapist might get you into difficulty and make your pain worse rather than better.

Will you provide bills for insurance reimbursement?

Radiant Physiotherapy provides patients with accurate invoices of treatment so that it is straightforward and simple to obtain reimbursement from the insurance provider.
