FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions - FAQs

Are physiotherapy sessions painful?

Physical therapy is generally not painful and completely safe. However, you may feel some discomfort since our therapists will be massaging areas of your body that are in pain. Stretching or deep tissue massage, for example, may cause soreness, but it will go away in some time. At times, you may do exercises that will exert some pressure on you, but our therapist will make sure you are comfortable all the time. Your physiotherapy plan is influenced by your body type, daily activities, alignment, and habits. If you stick to it, you'll see the benefits!

What are the techniques used in physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy has the following techniques:

  • Massage
  • Movement and Exercise
  • Taping
  • Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS)
  • Ultrasound
  • Acupuncture and Dry Needling
  • Hydrotherapy
  • Workplace Physiotherapy
  • Icing

Can I do physiotherapy exercises on my own at home?

Yes, but you need to be careful. Your at-home physical treatment regimen is unlikely to be beneficial if you plan to look up various exercises online and try them whenever you have free time. Doing exercises without the help of a qualified therapist might put you in danger and make your pain worse rather than better.

Is it better to request an appointment?

Making an appointment ahead of time is recommended. With the prior arrangement, our staff will be able to allocate you a specific time slot, and our physiotherapists will be able to deliver treatment on time. However, if you come to our clinic right away, you may have to wait longer depending on the number of patients in line.

How long does every session last?

The session usually lasts 30-45 minutes; however, if the therapy is needed for a longer time, it can be prolonged to 1 hour or 90 minutes. When a patient has severe/multiple issues, the session time is often lengthened.

How many sessions are needed?

There is no defined number of sessions for a certain condition because it depends on the patient’s specific needs. Our expert may propose fewer sessions if the condition is mild. However, the sessions are usually longer in more serious cases (neuro-related, post-surgery, senior care, etc.), so our physiotherapist will discuss the treatment plan with you.

Can I get physiotherapy while being pregnant?

Yes, physiotherapy can be safely done while being pregnant. Some modalities, such as needling and TENS on the back, could be limited depending on your trimester. However, other modalities, including manual treatment, are generally safe to use during pregnancy. You should consult your physiotherapist to discuss your objectives and expected outcomes so that you can have a unique treatment plan tailored to your specific requirements and condition.

How long should I wait before starting physiotherapy after surgery?

Starting physiotherapy after your surgery helps you recover quicker and prevents undesirable movement patterns from developing. Treatment may include education, range-of-motion exercises, pain management, and gait training in the early stages. However, it may be subject to your surgeon's clearance and advice.

What are the physiotherapy rates?

We directly bill most insurance companies. For a complete fee list – please visit our fees & insurance page.

What payment types do you accept?

Cash, credit, or debit cards are all accepted at Radiant Physiotherapy. For additional payment methods, please talk to our billing staff.

What is your appointment cancellation policy?

To avoid being charged a $50 cancellation fee, please give us at least 24 hours notice before canceling an appointment.

What should I bring with me to my first appointment?

  • A letter of recommendation from your doctor, if you have one.
  • Please give us your full insurance details.
  • X-rays and other scan findings of your injury or condition.
  • You may want to bring a pair of shorts and/or a vest-type shirt.

What should I wear for my physiotherapy sessions?

It is advised that you arrive for your physiotherapy session dressed in comfortable clothing that exposes the region to be treated. If you're treating your knees or hips, for example, wear loose shorts to expose those regions. Wearing a loose tank top or shirt over the neck or shoulder would allow us easy access to the region for therapy. For your convenience, we may also provide you with a gown.

What do I need to do after my physiotherapy sessions are over?

Your physiotherapist will tell you of any extra therapy activities (exercise, do's and don'ts, hot/cold, etc.) as well as injury prevention recommendations at each visit. At Radiant Physiotherapy, we believe in active treatment and rehabilitation and that your progress should extend beyond our clinic's walls.
